Ogun State politician, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to reassess her political path after an extended period of reflection, reports thegazellenews.com.
Sarafa-Yusuf disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, 27 August, 2026, explaining that she had informed the leadership of the party in Ogun State and formally submitted her resignation letter on the same day, following a period of travelling and spending time with family.
The politician described her time in the APC as an important part of her political journey, expressing gratitude for the relationships she built and the experiences that shaped her understanding of public service and leadership.
“My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she said.
She explained, however, that there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path, stressing that she considered it necessary to carefully evaluate how best to continue contributing to Ogun State and Nigeria.
“However, there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path. At this point in my journey, I believe it is important to consider carefully how best I can continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria, and I am comfortable taking the time to make that decision thoughtfully,” she stated.
Sarafa-Yusuf maintained that her commitment to public service remained undiminished, adding that she would continue to be guided by the same values that drew her into public life.
“What I know with certainty is that my commitment to public service remains undiminished and that I will continue to be guided by the same values that brought me into public life in the first place: service, integrity, inclusion, competence, and a genuine desire to make a difference,” she said.
She clarified that her resignation from the party did not amount to a withdrawal from public service, describing the development as the next step in her political journey.
“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey. And sometimes, moving forward requires giving oneself the space to reflect, to listen, and to decide with clarity where one truly wants to go,” she added.
The politician disclosed that she would return to her professional and business commitments after her holiday, while taking time to determine the form her next phase of political engagement would take.
She thereafter wished the APC and its members well as she embarks on the new phase of her journey.
