The National Business and Technical Examinations Board and the National Examinations Council have inaugurated a joint technical committee to harmonise operations and deepen collaboration within Nigeria’s public examination system.

The development was announced in a statement issued by NABTEB’s Assistant Director of Media and Protocol, Mr Uchechukwu Olisah, and made available on Friday, 13 February, 2026 in Benin.
Olisah explained that the decision followed a high-level meeting between the Registrar of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, and the Registrar of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna.

According to him, both chief executives led their respective management teams in deliberations aimed at strengthening examination administration and advancing shared institutional objectives.
Mohammed, as quoted in the statement, stressed the strategic importance of synergy among examination bodies, noting that collaboration remained critical to national development.
He added that the engagement provided an opportunity to renew and deepen institutional partnership through a learning-based exchange.
Furthermore, he called for broader coordination among examination bodies, including the West African Examinations Council and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, while acknowledging their distinct operational mandates.
In his remarks, Wushishi described the engagement as a significant step towards reinforcing cooperation between both institutions. He noted that NABTEB’s visit reflected strong institutional goodwill and expressed NECO’s readiness for sustained collaboration.
Olisah stated that the newly established 10-member technical committee, comprising five representatives from each organisation, has been mandated to develop operational frameworks, harmonise strategies, and recommend implementation modalities to the chief executives.
He added that the initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, promote standardisation, and strengthen institutional alignment across Nigeria’s examination ecosystem.
