The National Council of Muslim Youth Organizations (NACOMYO), Lagos State Chapter, has intensified calls for greater political consciousness and leadership participation among Muslim youths with the successful hosting of the Muslim Youth Political Summit 2026 in Lagos.
The event, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Alausa Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Ikeja, attracted political office holders, Islamic leaders, professionals and youths from across the state.
Held under the theme, “Strategic Partnership for Progress: Muslim Youth and the Lagos Development Agenda,” the summit focused on equipping Muslim youths with the knowledge, values and networks required to become active contributors to governance and democratic development.
Speakers emphasized that meaningful national progress requires young people to participate not only as voters but also as policy influencers and future leaders.
Declaring the summit open, the State Coordinator of NACOMYO Lagos, Engr. Isiaka Salami, described the gathering as a deliberate effort to inspire a new generation of responsible leaders. He noted that the organization remains committed to developing competent Muslim youths who can contribute positively to public administration while upholding the principles of justice, integrity and accountability.
In the keynote address delivered on behalf of the immediate past Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, Hon. Rasaq Olushola Ajala, Mr. Akeem Alao urged participants to prepare themselves for leadership through education, capacity building and active involvement in the democratic process. He reminded the youths that political relevance begins with civic responsibility, encouraging them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and remain actively engaged in elections.
Speaking at the event, the Public Relations Officer of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Alhaji Jubril Folami, commended NACOMYO for consistently championing youth development and promoting issues affecting the Muslim community. He encouraged young Muslims to remain united, disciplined and committed to contributing positively to society through constructive engagement.
The interactive panel session featured prominent personalities who responded to questions on governance, leadership and youth inclusion. President of the Muslim Community of Lagos State, Alhaji Barr. Muhammad Oyinlomo Danmole, stressed that Muslim youths must move beyond political discussions to practical participation by building leadership capacity and engaging with democratic institutions. He advocated stronger collaboration between Muslim organizations and government to create opportunities for emerging leaders.
Other panelists, including Alhaji Muritadoh Balogun, Alhaja Dhikrat Matesun-Oshodi and Ambassador (Comrade) Tijani Saheed Oluwadare (Seedorf), highlighted the importance of education, economic empowerment, transparency, mentorship and public service. They challenged participants to become agents of positive change in their communities while taking advantage of government programmes aimed at youth development and employment.
The summit concluded with participants expressing a renewed commitment to strengthening Muslim youth participation in governance through continuous leadership training, civic education and strategic partnerships. The event also recorded the presence of representatives from NASFAT, Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, MSSN Lagos, ASGAT, QUAREEB and several youth-based organizations, reinforcing a shared vision of building a more inclusive and participatory political future.
