Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Friday,29 November, 2024 presented a N382.57 billion budget proposal for 2025 to the state House of Assembly.
The governor termed the proposal the “Budget of Economic Growth and Stability,” and expressed confidence that the Assembly would expedite its passage.
The 2025 budget is divided into N159.97 billion (41.82%) for recurrent expenditure and N222.60 billion (58.18%) for capital expenditure.
Sule outlined the allocations for key sectors, including N80.14 billion for the Administrative Sector, N139.84 billion for the Economic Sector, N10.61 billion for Law and Justice, and N151.97 billion for the Social Sector.
During the presentation, the governor commended the Speaker, Danladi Jatau, and members of the Assembly for their consistent support in passing appropriation bills.
“I appreciate this synergy and partnership in our collective commitment to provide purposeful leadership to the people of Nasarawa State,” he said.
Sule also highlighted the 2025 budget’s focus on recovery and development, with significant allocations for education, infrastructure, agriculture, health, security, and technology.
Specific allocations include N78.16 billion for Education, Science & ICT, N71.70 billion for Infrastructure, N50.75 billion for Governance, Security & General Administration, N36.20 billion for Health, and N36.07 billion for Agriculture & Water Resources.
In his address, the governor noted the progress made in key sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to meeting the current economic realities.
“I am happy to inform you that government is ready to implement the new minimum wage to meet the current economic realities,” he said.
The governor assured the lawmakers that adequate provisions had been made in the budget to implement the minimum wage once the committee’s report was submitted.
Receiving the budget, Jatau assured him of the Assembly’s speedy passage of the appropriation bill.
“The 7th Assembly under my watch will ensure we give all the needed support to the state government to execute its policies and programmes,” he said.
Jatau also commended the governor for the state’s strides in internally generated revenue, noting that Nasarawa has become one of the few states recording impressive yearly IGR figures.
The Speaker praised the governor for his efforts in solid minerals exploration, which has positioned Nasarawa on the global map and attracted investors. He also acknowledged the state’s improved security situation, calling Nasarawa one of the most peaceful states in the country.
