Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North Central region have launched the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027, and resolved to hold a grand rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The movement was launched at its inaugural meeting, held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja on Friday, 2 October, 2026. The development was disclosed on the official X handle of the Presidential Media Aide, Bayo Onanuga.
At the end of the meeting, the forum resolved to intensify the mobilisation of support for the President in 2027, with the aim of delivering the region’s highest vote total.
It also agreed to organise a medical outreach programme alongside the Lafia rally, to set up a Reconciliation Committee and to hold town hall meetings across the region.
The forum further resolved that the Minister of Information would work with the State Commissioners for Information, State Publicity Secretaries and state publicity committees to increase awareness of the initiative, with the support of the state governors.
The SGF, Senator George Akume, CON, commended the movement’s national coordinator, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, for bringing the forum to fruition.
Akume said the North Central region had the overriding objective of delivering the highest regional vote total for Tinubu.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State also commended the initiative as timely.
He observed that the challenges ahead of the 2027 election were gradually receding, and said the latest voter register indicated strong support for the APC in the North Central.
Sule expressed confidence that the region would deliver the highest number of votes for the President and the other candidates contesting under the APC platform.
He noted that the region’s political strength was significantly greater than it was ahead of the last election, as it currently has the SGF, the National Chairman of the APC and several key political appointees.
According to him, the region would use the movement to take the party’s message to the grassroots and mobilise support across the North Central.
Echono said the conversation was no longer simply about whether Tinubu would win the North Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election.
He commended Akume, the North Central Governors’ Forum and other critical stakeholders across the region for their steadfast commitment to and support for the Renewed Hope Administration.
He said the forum would serve as a formidable launchpad and strategic mobilisation platform that would bring together political leaders, grassroots actors and other stakeholders across the North Central under a shared vision and common purpose ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, described the movement as the first of its kind.
