The clamour for the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to run for the office of the President in 2023 should be supported by all, says the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle Agunbiade.
According to the lawmaker from Ikorodu State Constituency 1, “the issue is beyond only the clamour for the Tinubu Presidency but also about the man who the presidential cap fits”.
Honourable Agunbiade, a fourth term Lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly spoke exclusively to the The Gazelle News.com’s crew during an interview session in his office on Wednesday, 16 December, 2020.
According to him, there are lots of criteria needed for a person seeking to occupy the highest office. “The questions people will ask is about what do possess in terms of qualities to aspire for that office. It is not about money alone. What have put forward? What have you done with the previous office you have been entrusted with in the past? What are your antecedents? How much of trust does the people have in you? These are some of the pertinent questions people will ask,” he said.
Agunbiade stated that Asiwaju Tinubu has distinguished himself as a dogged fighter in putting in place endurig democratic values and an astute believer in true federalism.
“In 2003, former President Olusegun deployed all his military tactics to win the South West states for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but Asiwaju was resolute and Lagos remained and still remains a progressive state. That’s why we called him ‘the Last Man Standing’.
“He not only retained Lagos but he also fought hard and brought back the other South West states back to the fold of the progressives,” the Lagos Assembly Majority Leader said.
“Asiwaju is an astute and experienced human manager, a man endowed with divine skill of fiscal discipline. Lagosians have not forgotten how he managed the state finances during the time the Obasanjo administration illegally seized allocation belonging to local governments in the state.
“Asiwaju has the right qualities and the perfect antecedents to rule Nigeria, the cap fits him perfectly,” Agunbiade said.
