Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has charged all senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service to urgently learn, apply and imbibe tenets of entrepreneurship and financial management in the course of their duty as this will also help them plan their future retirement life.
The Minister gave the charge at a ceremony organised for newly promoted Senior Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service in the rank of Assistant Comptroller General and Comptroller respectively Friday, 17 June, 2022 at the Correctional Center Headquarters in Abuja..
Ogbeni Aregbesola who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Mr Ademola Olayinka urged the newly decorated officers to be more innovative and proactive in their duties especially in the aspect of security, now that they have been promoted to positions of higher responsibilities.
In his word ‘”This is the time to manage emotions better”‘ adding that the newly promoted officers should be leaders that encouraged and motivate their counterparts in the discharge of their duties accordingly, for the safeguard of the nation’s security and effective rehabilitation of inmates under their watch.
The Minister admonished them to appreciate their promotion as recognition of, and reward for hard work, discipline and loyalty; charging the newly decorated officers to build strategic partnerships to make their work easier as they cannot work alone if they are to attain the desired objective.
Earlier, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Correctional Sevice, Haliru Nababa while commending the newly decorated Officers urged them to be disciplined and loyal in discharging their duties adding that “Today’s occasion underscores my commitment to ensuring that discipline, hard work and excellence is rewarded as much as possible; in producing highly motivated and professional personnel that will add value to the ongoing reforms in the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).”
Alhaji Haliru Nababa also disclosed ”On my part, I will not relent in providing the required logistics and administrative support within available resources, to ensure the implementation of all policies and directives”.
Promising that Personnel welfare will remain at the front burner under his watch, he said Staff Housing for instance, has been given a boost with on-going construction of new barracks and renovation of dilapidated ones.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of the Civil Defence , Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board, Maj.Gen.E.E. Bassey, observed that those who went for last promotion examination were much more than the approved vacancy, he then encouraged those who could not make it this time not to be demoralised as God’s time is the best.
He however disclosed that subsequent promotions will be through computer-based examinations; he therefore advised officers to develop themselves and be computer literate.
The commissioner also disclosed that promotion wil now be based on written examination and that any officer who fail to pass three consecutive promotion examinations will be made to exit from the service.
Other guests at the event are: the Secretary to the Board, Hajiya Rufai; Representative of His Royal Hghness the Emir of Lafia, Nasarawa State and Representatives of the DGs of Federal Fire Service, and the NSCDC.
