Arsenal got the bragging right over Chelsea as they beat their London rivals 3-1 in a London derby on Saturday, 26 December, 2020 reports The Gazelle News.com.
The result reduced pressure on underfire Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, who had lost three matches in a row before the match.
Although Chelsea started the match on the ascendancy, Arsenal gradually played themselves into taking control of the match and they duly took the lead in the 38th minute when Reece James tripped Kierran Theeney in the box after being nut-megged by the Arsenal full back.
The referee pointed to the spot and captain for the day, Alexander Lacazette duly scored from the ensuing penalty which was confirmed after a VAR check.
Granit Xhaka hit a wonderful freekick in the 44th minute to double Arsenal’s advantage after Ngolo Kante had fouled Bukayo Saka outside Chelsea’s box.
Bukayo Saka scored the best goal of the day when he chipped Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Mendy, in the 56th minute.
Tammy Abraham pulled one back in the 84th minute and Chelsea through Jorginho lost a penalty in the 88th minute to complete a miserable day for Frank Lampard’s team.
