Lagosians have been called upon to support the state Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu in the rebuilding process of damaged infrastructure facilities in the state.
The call also suggested a special status should be accorded the state to take care of several facilities abandoned by the Federal Government since the movement of the seat of power to Abuja
These calls were made on Monday, 16 November, 2020 by the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) in a press release issued and signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki.
Soloki also condemned the wanton looting that characterised the #EndSARS protests, urging Lagosians and the Federal Government should come to the aid of the state in the process of rebuilding damaged facilities in the state, stressing further that a special status for Lagos will enable the Government of Lagos to take up some of the challenges abdicated by the Federal Government for the state.
According to the organizations, “the efforts of the governor of Lagos State state to rebuild and replace all properties damaged during the #EndSARS protest in the state is a commendable move. It’s on this note that we want to appeal to Lagosians who are well to do, to come and support the laudable move of the Governor to restore everything damaged by the hoodlums that hijacked the protest”.
The CAIDOV boss further disclosed that Lagos being the economic hub of the country deserves to be specially treated and a special amount set aside to take care of some responsibilities left for the state by the Federal Government.
According to the CAIDOV boss, “we want to call on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to consider granting Lagos special status as a former capital of the country. That’s what is obtainable all over the world. It’s a statement of fact that so many of the infrastructure left by the Federal Government are scattered all over the state with the attendant pressure on the state. It’s only fit and proper that such a state that harbours virtually every tribe in Nigeria deserves special status and also a special grant to support it”.
