The Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada has stressed the need for stakeholders in the education sector to give top priority to primary education in the interest of children who are future leaders of tomorrow.
The council chairman, popularly called Mayoress stated this on Friday, 20 November, 2020 at the council secretariat during the distribution of various educational materials to pupils and teachers of the twelve public primary schools in the council area.
Princess Bada submitted that education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world positively.
She added that her administration’s objective of laying a solid foundation for the future of children in the council area, informed the reason for provision of the educational materials.
She appealed to pupils and teachers who are beneficiaries of the materials to make effective use of the facilities,as this will go a long way in preparing them for the task ahead.
The materials distributed to all the 12 public primary schools in the council are: complete scholar package which comprises school bag, water bottle, mathematical set, writing materials and stockings.
Others are: exercise books, benches and desks for pupils, furniture for teachers and automatic wall sanitizer dispensers with refill. All the educational materials were distributed to the pupils and teachers for free.
The first female chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA used the occasion to highlight other accomplishments of her administration since inception ten months ago.
She said,” we have constructed and commissioned five roads, established the first ever customary court in the council, procured utility vehicles for enhancement of governance”.
Others, she added included, monthly provision of food palliative to the aged,widows and youths across the seven wards in the council.She concluded that Health and Environment sectors were not left out.
The Vice Chairman of the council,Alhaji Mukail Adisa,who is also the Supervisor for Education, while giving the closing remarks, expressed appreciation to the Mayoress,on behalf of the pupils and teachers, for provision of the educational materials.
Dignitaries who attended the event included the Leader of the council’s Legislative Arm, Hon Akanni Ajibola Usman; other elected councillors, members of the Executive Committee, All Progressives Congress (APC) Leader in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Alhaji Abiodun Salami; member, Lagos State Audit Service Commission, Alhaja Kafilat Ogbara; the Council Manager, Prince Sunday Olujobi Adegbola; and other management staff, community, religious and market leaders, teachers and pupils of the 12 public primary schools in the council area.
