The Nigeria Police Force has suspended Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia from duty, effective Thursday, 9 January, 2025.

According to a wireless message addressed to all departments, units, and commands, signed by the Force Secretary, the Force Headquarters warned Lafia to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the conduct of police officers on suspension. This warning comes as the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) prepares to determine Lafia’s case.

The police authorities cited the decision of the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM), which was communicated in its letter dated January 9, 2025. The letter referenced PSR 100406, 2021, as amended, and approved Lafia’s suspension from duty with effect from January 9, 2025.

Furthermore, the police authorities directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police Budget and Payment to ensure that Lafia’s salary is stopped immediately.

Lafia assumed office as the AIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in February 2023. However, his tenure has been marred by controversy, including allegations that he manipulated his entry history to reflect a longer service period with the Nigeria Police Force.
