This is certainly good news for the Nigerian economy as the country’s inflation rate dropped further in September 2026 to 14.64 per cent from 15.39 per cent recorded in August.

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS , which made this disclosure through its Consumer Price Index and Inflation Report released on Thursday, 15 October, 2026,  indicated that the country’s inflation rate eased during the period under review.

However, food inflation rose slightly to 19.59 per cent in September from 19.57 per cent in August, amid persistent food price pressures on Nigerians.

Prior to this latest development, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, at its last Monetary Policy Committee, MPC, meeting, cut the interest rate to 23 per centfrom 26.5 per cent, citing the easing inflation rate.
