The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC)has declared that no prospective corps member will be mobilised for national service without first obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database.
The scheme issued the directive in a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, 3 August, 2026 as it intensified preparations for the mobilisation of a fresh batch of prospective corps members and stepped up efforts to safeguard their journeys to orientation camps.
According to the notice, NERD clearance is now compulsory for all prospective corps members. The scheme urged them to complete the process early to avoid delays, warning that failure to obtain the clearance could stall their mobilisation into the national service programme.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the notice read.
Reiterating the compulsory nature of the requirement, the NYSC added, “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, no NYSC!!!”
The scheme did not disclose further details about the clearance process, but the directive points to a stricter verification regime as preparations continue for the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes barely hours after the NYSC announced the mobilisation of another batch of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, during which it urged institutions and eligible graduates to complete all necessary documentation ahead of the orientation exercise.
It also follows a separate safety advisory in which the scheme cautioned prospective corps members against travelling at night to orientation camps.
The NYSC had advised them to break their journeys whenever necessary and lodge in safe locations, or designated military and security formations where available, rather than risk travelling after dark.
The renewed advisories, taken together, reflect the scheme’s efforts to strengthen the integrity of its mobilisation process while addressing growing security concerns on Nigerian highways.
As mobilisation activities gather pace, prospective corps members are expected to complete all required registration and verification procedures, including the newly emphasised NERD clearance, before reporting for orientation camp.
