The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has launched the Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Transportation and Environmental Corps (OTEC), a groundbreaking initiative designed to improve environmental management and transportation systems within the LCDA.

The event took place at the LCDA premises on Tuesday, 1 July, 2025, with Hon. Rasaq Olusola Ajala, the LCDA Chairman, performing the Inauguration.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ajala explained that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is doing an excellent job in traffic management, but the state’s large population means they cannot cover all areas effectively.

“Thus, in order to address this challenge, OTEC was established to support LASTMA and ensure the delivery of provisions of traffic management service as outlined in the Lagos State law,” he said.

According to Ajala, “Key function of OTEC is traffic management. OTEC members will work alongside LASTMA to manage traffic flow and reduce congestion.
“Road signs have been erected to guide road users, and offenders will be prosecuted accordingly”.
Other function of OTEC, according to the Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA Chairman is waste management.

“OTEC will collaborate with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the state Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources to ensure effective waste management and sanitation practices.
“The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Waste and Recycling Services will also complement the work of licensed Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators, providing services to residents while promoting sustainability,” he said.
Hon. Ajala announced that all corps members and road managers would receive employment letters immediately.
“The first month will focus on advocacy and sensitization, with enforcement commencing a month later,” he said.
He emphasized that OTEC is designed to be sustainable, with unemployed youth gainfully employed and integrated into the local government civil service system.
Hon. Seyi Jakande, Vice Chairman and All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate for the LCDA in the coming council elections, praised the initiative, stating that OTEC has been carefully planned to stand the test of time.
He highlighted that the corps members have undergone rigorous physical training and medical examinations to ensure their fitness.
Hon. Jakande also rejected the notion that OTEC would be a burden on the incoming government, emphasizing that the programme is a corrective measure aimed at promoting smooth traffic flow and road maintenance culture.
The highlight of the event was the commissioning of various vehicles for the Agency.

Former Senate Minority Whip and Apex Leader for Mushin Federal Constituencies, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon commended the Ajala administration for the initiative.
“This is highly commendable. Apart from solving the twin menace of traffic management and waste disposal, it has also provide huge employment opportunities for our youths and women,” Senator Solomon who was represented by Hon Rafiu Aderanmola said.
Senator Solomon later commissioned the towing vehicles, Hon Seyi Jakande commissioned the motorbikes and while the APC Chairman in the LCDA, Hon Ismail Babatunde Kazeem (TUNKAZ) commissioned the compactors.
With OTEC’s launch, the Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA takes a significant step towards enhancing environmental management and transportation systems, setting a precedent for future administrations.
