The Ogun State Police Command has earned triple recognition at the Golden Jubilee Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, marking 50 years of the Union in the state, a milestone that coincides with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State.
The Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador; and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award.
The Command’s participation in the week-long celebration demonstrated its solidarity with the Fourth Estate of the Realm and its commitment to strengthening Police-media relations in the interest of public safety and confidence.
The celebration, held from 26th October to 1st November 2026, was themed “Truth, Trust and the Press: Protecting Democratic Choice and Rebuilding Public Confidence in Journalism.”
A major highlight was a panel session on the theme, featuring CP Ojajuni as a panellist. He urged journalists to uphold truth, professional ethics and patriotism, emphasising the importance of responsible journalism to national development and public confidence in institutions.
At the grand finale, the Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award in recognition of its proactive policing strategies, operational achievements and commitment to protecting lives and property.
While receiving the award, CP Ojajuni attributed the achievements of the Command, particularly the impact of Operation KOSAYE, to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Handshake Patrol initiative.
He explained that the operation was executed on the IGP’s directive through collaboration between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands, with the support of the Govednors of both states.
He noted that the initiative strengthened inter-state security cooperation and enhanced coordinated efforts to prevent and combat criminal activities.
CP Ojajuni was also honoured as a Golden Jubilee Ambassador, alongside 49 other distinguished personalities. The recognition reflects his leadership and longstanding contributions to policing in Ogun State, where he previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department and Squadron Commander of the 16 Police Mobile Force, Abeokuta, before his appointment as Commissioner of Police.
Similarly, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award for his contributions to strategic police-public communication, media engagement and public safety advocacy.
The Commissioner of Police dedicated the honours to the Inspector-General of Police and all officers of the Nigeria Police Force whose commitment and sacrifices continue to advance the mandate of protecting lives and property in the state.
The Command appreciated the NUJ Ogun State Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, for the recognition and its continued role in fostering constructive engagement between the media and security institutions.
The Command reiterated that effective policing requires more than operational deployment, it also depends on public trust, timely information and constructive stakeholder engagement. It therefore reaffirms its commitment to sustaining a professional and mutually beneficial partnership with the NUJ and the wider media community in advancing public enlightenment, crime prevention and community safety.
The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to proactive, intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property, working with all stakeholders towards a safer and more secure Ogun State.
