The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of revered elder statesman and leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who died on Tuesday, 20 October, 2026 at the age of 100.
Ojelabi described the death of Pa Fasoranti as a monumental loss to Yorubaland, the progressive political family and Nigeria as a whole, noting that the late elder statesman lived a remarkable life defined by integrity, discipline, selfless service and an enduring commitment to good governance.
He said Pa Fasoranti belonged to a distinguished generation of leaders whose convictions and sacrifices helped shape Nigeria’s democratic journey and progressive political tradition.
According to Ojelabi, the late Afenifere leader was a respected voice of wisdom and conscience whose dedication to justice, social development and the welfare of the Yoruba people earned him admiration across political and ideological divides.
“Pa Reuben Fasoranti was more than a political leader; he was a father figure, a repository of wisdom and a symbol of principled leadership. His life of service, commitment to democratic values and contributions to the development of Yorubaland and Nigeria will remain a source of inspiration to generations to come,” Ojelabi said.
The Lagos APC Chairman noted that the late elder statesman’s contributions extended beyond partisan politics, recalling his service as an educationist, former Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State and leader of Afenifere.
He added that Pa Fasoranti’s passing represents the loss of one of the enduring links to the generation that championed progressive ideals, democratic governance and social justice.
Ojelabi extended his heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the Afenifere family, the government and people of Ondo State, the people of Akure Kingdom and the entire Yoruba nation.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss and preserve the enduring legacy of honour, service and integrity left behind by the departed elder statesman.
“Though Baba has departed at the remarkable age of 100, his legacy will continue to speak for him. May God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all those mourning this great loss,” he said.
