The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the constitution of a high-level Committee on Circular Economy, Climate Change Policy and Roadmap Development.

This disclosure was made by the state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko at the Governor’s office on Thursday, 7 August, 2025, in Akure.

“This decisive step reflects the administration’s strong commitment to building a future-ready, resilient, and green Ondo State — one that prioritizes environmental sustainability, climate action, and inclusive economic growth,” the Commissioner.

He stated that the newly approved Committee is tasked with:

Developing a robust policy framework that will guide the transition to a Circular Economy in Ondo State

Designing a practical and inclusive climate change roadmap, aligned with national commitments and global standards such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Catalyzing green innovation, investment, and job creation across critical sectors including agriculture, energy, waste management, and manufacturing.

The Committee will draw from a multidisciplinary pool of professionals, including representatives from key ministries, development agencies, private sector players, academia, and civil society.

“Ondo State recognizes that climate change and environmental degradation pose serious risks to our economy, livelihoods, and health. However, they also present unprecedented opportunities for industrial transformation, resource efficiency, and climate-smart development.

“The Circular Economy and Climate Policy will:

 Enable waste-to-wealth solutions and circular business models; enhance the State’s carbon credit readiness and access to climate finance; support youth employment through green job creation;

strengthen community resilience to climate shocks, particularly in rural and coastal areas; position Ondo State as a subnational leader in environmental governance and green economic growth.

“The Ondo State Government is committed to inclusive consultation and partnership throughout this process. We call on all stakeholders — including local communities, the private sector, and development partners — to actively support this historic shift toward a circular, climate-resilient economy,” the Commissioner said.
