The South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) is set to inaugurate its Zonal, Local Government and Local Council Development Area structures in Lagos State, as the group launches a fresh phase of grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and the governorship bid of Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa will be the Guest Speaker at the event while the Director General of the PBAT/KOH Campaign Organisation in Lagos, Senator Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro will be the Chairman at the event.
The inauguration, tagged “Lagos SWAGA 2.0: Consolidating Grassroots Mobilisation and Deepening Political Engagements for the Renewed Hope Agenda, will hold at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, LTV Compound, Coca-Cola Bus Stop, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, according to a statement issued by the group’s Steering Committee in Lagos on Thursday, 10 September, 2026
The statement by the organising committee described the event as a strategic expansion of the movement’s footprint across the state, aimed at consolidating political structures at the grassroots level and ensuring the achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda are felt by citizens in every community.
SWAGA, credited with first drafting Tinubu into the 2023 presidential race, said it was now positioning itself to return him to power through grassroots mobilisation.
The group also pledged its support for Hamzat, the APC’s governorship candidate, to succeed incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.
“Since its inception, SWAGA has been at the forefront of championing visionary leadership and political inclusion,” the statement read.
“Building upon the monumental successes of its initial phases, SWAGA 2.0 shifts its focus toward deepening community engagement, fostering inclusive governance, and creating a unified front ahead of future political milestones.”
Members of the Steering Committee include former Reps members: Hon. Mosuru Owolabi, Hakeem Abiodun Muniru, Lanre Odubote, and Deji Jakande; former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, RT Honourable Adefunmilayo Tejuoso; wi Hon. Remi Adebowale, a former Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to the Lagos State Governor and former Lagos council Chairmen: Shamusudeen Abiodun Olaleye and Kamal Bashua.
The highlight of the occasion will be the swearing-in of newly appointed zonal coordinators and local administrators, drawn from past legislators at state and federal levels, alongside serving and former federal and state functionaries.
The statement said these leaders would drive the movement’s advocacy, mobilise communities and serve as a link between the leadership and the electorate across all 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.
Political leaders, party stalwarts, community influencers and grassroots mobilisers from across the South-West are expected at the event, which members of the press have been invited to cover.
