The PBAT/KOH Campaign Council of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has met with the Head of the Political Desk of the British High Commission, Lucy Green, to discuss Lagos politics and the party’s preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
The campaign council was represented by its Deputy Director-General, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, at meeting, which took place at the British Residence, 3 Oyinkan Abayomi, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Tuesday 22 September, 2026.
While disclosing this, Ajala stated that the meeting was held on the directive of the Director-General of the Lagos State Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
During the interactive session, Ajala discussed the political history of Lagos State and the sustained presence of progressive political parties in the state, tracing the trend from Action, Unity Party Of Nigeria, Social Democratic Party, Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the APC.
He said, “Lagos has remained a major centre of progressive politics in Nigeria since independence, adding that the APC had a strong support base across the state.”
Ajala said that while the party remained confident in its electoral strength, its major concern was not simply winning the 2027 election but ensuring that the eventual results accurately reflected the strength of its registered voters and the level of support for the party across Lagos.
The British High Commission official also sought to know the major selling points of the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
Responding, Ajala highlighted Hamzat’s perseverance, patience, integrity, experience and leadership capacity as some of the qualities that distinguish him from other contenders.
He also pointed to Hamzat’s experience in both the private and public sectors, as well as his knowledge of Lagos State and its political,geographical and socio-economic landscape.
Ajala noted that, “Hamzat has a deep understanding of the history of Lagos and the needs and aspirations of its residents, adding that his experience in public service and familiarity with the state would be valuable in providing effective leadership.”
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Lagos APC Campaign Council to present its perspective on the political situation in the state, the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections and the profile of its governorship candidate.
