A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has declared that securing 90 per cent of registered voters in the state for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is an achievable target.
Oluyede, who was the PDP governorship candidate in the Saturday, 20 June, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election and is Convener of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda (OPARHA), disclosed this in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Monday, 7 September, 2026, upon his return from a two-week holiday.
He explained that the target was realisable through aggressive grassroots mobilisation for the President’s re-election across the state.
The PDP chieftain urged members and supporters of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress and other political tendencies who shared his vision of a prosperous Ekiti and a stronger Nigeria to join the mobilisation drive, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to consolidate ongoing development.
He maintained that President Tinubu deserved a second term, arguing that Nigeria could not continue to start reforms afresh every four years, and that any reform process already begun must be allowed to mature and consolidate.
Oluyede expressed readiness to work with Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and other stakeholders to achieve the 90 per cent target.
He explained that OPARHA would deploy its structure to embark on a grassroots mobilisation campaign across the state’s 16 local government areas and 177 wards, taking the message to every door, household, ward and community, and explaining to residents why President Tinubu deserved another term before allowing them to make an informed decision.
He described the target as huge but achievable, stressing that the mobilisation effort was not merely about winning an election but about building a political bridge among different groups in Ekiti and strengthening ties between the state and federal governments.
The OPARHA convener dismissed insinuations that he had abandoned politics following his decision to proceed on a two-week break after the June 20 governorship election.
He explained that the holiday, taken after completing a series of consultations and political engagements, allowed him to rest after a demanding election period and reflect on political developments in Ekiti and the country.
He disclosed that the consultations were geared towards bringing people from the PDP and APC together, noting that beyond party politics, stakeholders must begin to think about what is best for Nigeria and particularly for Ekiti State.
During the post-election period, Oluyede honoured an invitation from President Tinubu, during which both men held a meaningful discussion and agreed to work together towards 2027.
He stressed that the engagement was not about abandoning his political identity but about putting Nigeria and the interest of the people first.
He also disclosed meeting Governor Oyebanji for a frank and constructive discussion, during which both agreed that regardless of their political backgrounds, they must be on the same page concerning the development and future of Ekiti State, an engagement he described as part of broader efforts to build political understanding across party lines.
