The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is unfit to be Vice President, arguing that his own recent remarks about his finances show he cannot earn a living outside public office.
The party made the claim in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, in Abuja on Sunday, 4 October, 2026. The statement was titled “Rotimi Amaechi, You Are a Loafer Outside the Public Office”.
Amaechi is a former two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor and two-term Minister of Transportation.
He is also a former presidential aspirant and the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The APC opened the statement with a condolence message on the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, praying that her soul rests in perfect peace. It also wished Amaechi excellent health of mind and body.
The party then turned to what it called his “uncanny confessions”. According to the statement, Amaechi first said he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him. It added that he has now said his inability to afford medications led to the death of his mother at the age of 89.
The APC said Amaechi spent four decades at the highest levels of public office, during which he was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family.
It said that, three years out of office, he has become destitute and unable to fend for himself and his loved ones.
“If Amaechi is not struggling with some kind of Peter Pan syndrome, then he must be a loafer, aimless and irresponsible for his inability to be productive and earn a living outside the patronage of public office,” the party said.
It further expressed the wish that employers of labour in his hometown of Ubima, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, might find him suitable for a job that pays enough to feed him and buy medications for himself and his family in retirement.
The APC then said Amaechi is asking Nigerians to make him Vice President in 2027 so that he can continue to live off the public treasury and keep what it called the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the party stated.
It concluded that no one could speak more to Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of Vice President than Amaechi himself.
