Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, is set to take centre stage in Detroit, Michigan, as Wayne State University prepares to host a major African leadership conference and awards ceremony on October 17.

The event, which combines the Nigerian Students Association’s 4th Annual Conference with the Center for African Development in America’s (CADA) African Leadership Excellence Awards, is expected to bring together Nigerian officials, US-based development advocates, students and members of the Nigerian-American community.
Radda is among the Nigerian leaders being recognised at the gathering, with organisers highlighting his administration’s programmes in agriculture, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and renewable energy.
The conference is also expected to provide a platform for discussions on stronger links between Nigerian state governments and the Nigerian diaspora, particularly in the areas of investment, mentorship, skills development and knowledge exchange.
Among officials expected or invited to attend are Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the Mayor of Detroit and the President of the Nigerian Foundation of Michigan.
The presence of the officials and community leaders is expected to give the October 17 gathering a broader diplomatic and development dimension beyond its university setting.
Organisers said Katsina’s development programmes provide opportunities for greater engagement with Nigerians and development partners in the diaspora, particularly through investment and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The event is therefore expected to place Governor Radda and Katsina State prominently before an international audience while creating opportunities for stronger relationships between the state and the Nigerian-American community.
