Residents of Imota Local Council Development Area have expressed relief and appreciation following the commencement of a pothole-filling exercise by the Chairman of the council, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, aimed at improving road conditions, enhancing safety, and ensuring smoother vehicular movement across the community.
The road rehabilitation initiative, which commenced this week, began with the filling of potholes at the Imota Roundabout along Ayayo Road, a major route used daily by motorists, commercial transport operators, and residents. The intervention is part of the council administration’s ongoing efforts to address critical infrastructure challenges and improve the living conditions of the people.
Speaking during an inspection of the work, Hon. Benson said the exercise became necessary due to the growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of several roads within the LCDA. He noted that the project would help minimize vehicle damage and lower the risk of road accidents caused by potholes.
The Chairman explained that road infrastructure remains a key component of his administration’s developmental agenda under the “Hi-SEE” transformation programme. According to him, the council is committed to implementing projects that directly impact the welfare of residents and promote socio-economic development.
Hon. Benson further stated that the pothole-filling exercise is intended as an immediate intervention while the council continues to explore sustainable and long-term solutions to road infrastructure challenges. He assured residents that additional roads across the LCDA would be attended to in phases, based on available resources and identified priorities.
Commercial drivers and motorists operating within Imota LCDA welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely response to a challenge that had persisted for several months. Many noted that the poor state of some roads had resulted in frequent vehicle breakdowns, increased transportation costs, and avoidable traffic congestion.
Residents also praised the council chairman for listening to their concerns and taking swift action.
