The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has paid a solidarity visit to Maiduguri to further lend a helping hand to the victims of the September 10 floods that ravaged parts of the State,  on behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative RHI.

The First Lady who was in the State alongside the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shetima and wives of some state Governors lauded the infrastructural developments being witnessed in the State.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu attributed this to the hard work and commitment of Gov Babagana Zulum.

“We are here to support you. It is really sad but I pray the land will flourish and prosper again,” she said.

In response to the plea by the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn El-kanemi, that the Renewed Hope Initiative should help women in the state get back on their feet, the First Lady disclosed that the initiative would be supporting 5000 women petty traders in Borno State who were affected by the September 10 flooding in Maiduguri with N250 million.

“After His Royal Majesty’s words, myself and HE Hajia Shettima discussed it on our way here and agreed that the Initiative will give N50,000 each to 5,000 women petty traders to support their businesses,” the First Lady promised.

She said the incident which left some residents dead and many homeless was disturbing and would require the support of all Nigerians to fast track recovery of the victims.

In his remarks, the Governor of Borno State Prof Babagana Zulum thanked the First Lady and the RHI for her contributions and support since the unfortunate flooding.

“I thank Your Excellency for the initial donation which was made through the wife of the Vice President. These food items and other items and your visit are a further evidence that you are truly a mother to the whole nation,” Governor Zulum said.

The First Lady later interacted with a cross section of the victims at the Borno State Government House and she handed over relief materials, including tons of food and sanitary items to them.
