The sole Labour Party member of the Lagos State House of Assembly has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reports thegazellenews.com
The member, Foluke Stella Osafile, a female, was the sole surviving LP member in the 40-member Lagos State House of Assembly after the other LP member from Amuwo-Odofin State Constituency II lost at the Election Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rauf Olawale Age-Sulaiman.

Thegazellenews.com reports that Osafile represents Amuwo-Odofin State Constituency I in the Assembly.
She is a first-time lawmaker and currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation.

The lawmaker is expected to formally announce her defection to the ADC during plenary in the coming days.
Confirming the development, Osafile said, “Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC.”
However, she declined to disclose the reason for her defection. When asked when she would officially notify her colleagues on the floor of the House, she said, “Don’t worry, I will announce it during plenary soon.”
Osafile was elected into the Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, defeating the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Folorunso Olaitan Segun, by a wide margin.
Her victory was later challenged by the APC at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled in favour of the APC candidate.
However, Osafile approached the Court of Appeal and successfully reclaimed her seat, bringing the legal battle to an end.
