The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Sunday, 2 August, 2026 confirmed that a female motorist has died in a lone road crash at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, after reportedly losing control of her vehicle and crashing into a roadside building, reports thegazellenews.com.
The LASTMA Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, who made this disclosure through a statement on Sunday, 2 August, 2026 disclosed that that preliminary investigations had shown the deceased was driving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB at the time of the accident.
According to Taofiq, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, lost control before the vehicle veered off the carriageway and rammed into a building.
“The ferocity of the impact proved catastrophic, resulting in her instantaneous death, ”LASTMA image-maker said, adding that its officers, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded quickly to the scene by cordoning off the affected section of the road to prevent further accidents and ease vehicular movement.
Taofiq also added that although the crash temporarily disrupted traffic, the prompt intervention of the personnel restored the free flow of vehicles in a short time.
The agency extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the fortitude to bear the loss.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reacting to the incident, described the crash as a painful reminder of the dangers associated with speeding and reckless driving.
“Every journey must be undertaken with prudence, patience, and an unwavering commitment to established traffic regulations. No destination is worth the ultimate sacrifice of human life.
“Excessive speed remains one of the foremost causes of fatal road traffic crashes, and motorists must, at all times, exercise the highest degree of caution, restraint, and responsibility while behind the wheel,” LASTMA boss said, just as he also urged motorists to ensure their vehicles were mechanically fit before embarking on any journey, stressing that any sign of a mechanical defect should be addressed before driving.
