The South West geopolitical zone leads all regions in the number of students supported under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, with 308,998 beneficiaries, according to the latest data released by the agency.

The figures, compiled by NELFUND, showed that the North Central followed with 290,102 beneficiaries, while the North West recorded 284,446 students supported under the scheme.

According to the data, the North East had 237,214 beneficiaries, followed by the South South with 167,251, while the South East recorded the lowest figure among the six geopolitical zones, with 120,924 students supported.

The breakdown indicated that the South West’s lead placed it ahead of other zones in accessing the federal student loan scheme, which was established to provide financial support to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.

NELFUND has continued to disburse loans to eligible students across the country’s higher institutions since the scheme’s commencement, as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve access to tertiary education financing nationwide.
