The Lagos State Government has said teachers deserve better recognition, better support and better pay, arguing that those who shape minds and lay the foundation for the future should be valued far beyond a “Happy Teachers’ Day” message.

The government made the remarks in a post on its official X handle, @followlasg, on Monday, 5 October, 2026, as it celebrated teachers.

It said teaching is more than standing in front of a classroom and delivering a lesson.

According to the post, the profession takes passion to keep showing up, compassion to understand that every child learns differently, and “a different kind of patience” to teach, correct and encourage, and sometimes to teach the same thing over and over again.

The post then asked whether teachers get the appreciation they deserve for all they give.

The government said the people who spend their days shaping minds, building confidence and laying the foundation for the future should be valued far beyond a “Happy Teachers’ Day” message. It said they deserve better recognition, better support and “yes, better pay”.

It said it was celebrating every teacher who continues to make a difference, one lesson and one child at a time.

The government then asked what residents can do to show teachers that their work matters beyond the day.

It urged them to support a teacher, appreciate one, speak up for better working conditions, or simply tell a teacher who made a difference in their lives that they remember.

It closed by inviting the public to share in the comments the teacher who made that difference for them.

The post tagged the account of the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and several other accounts, and carried the hashtags #AGreaterLagosRising and #LASG.
