The Arowolo Compound in Sakama, Taiwo, Ilorin, was filled with solemnity and prayers as family, friends, and well-wishers gathered to bid farewell to Alhaji Husamot Salaudeen Adebayo, a renowned panel beater and respected Islamic cleric, who passed away on Thursday, 18 September, 2025 at the age of 85.
Alhaji Adebayo, who suffered a cardiac arrest in Olusosun, Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, was buried at his Ilorin residence according to Islamic rites.
His death came just three months after he lost one of his wives, Alhaja Kudirat Aduke Adebayo, on June 26, 2025.
Three days of special prayers were held in his honour in both Lagos and Kwara States, as Islamic scholars and clerics sought Allah’s mercy and prayed for him to be granted Aljanat Fridaus.
A master of his craft, Alhaji Adebayo made a name for himself as an official panel beater for leading banks including First Bank, Wema Bank, and Union Bank between 1972 and 1993.
Over his career, he trained and mentored 35 apprentices who graduated under his tutelage before he retired and dedicated his life to Islamic service.
Born on August 28, 1940, in Ga-Dadi, Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State, Alhaji Adebayo faced early challenges. Following the death of his mother in 1962, he moved to Lagos to live with his uncle, Alhaji Yusuf Ayinde, in the Gaskia area of Amukoko.
There, he began his panel beating apprenticeship and graduated in 1969, eventually becoming a highly sought-after craftsman.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alhaji Adebayo was a committed servant of faith.
He was Baba Adinni of Ike-Oluwa Central Mosque, Olusosun, and Alatunse Adinni of Ike-Anobi Mosque, Oregun, Lagos.
Over the years, he received several merit awards in recognition of his service to Islam and his community.
He is survived by a wife, children, and grandchildren, son in-laws and daughter in-laws who remember him as a dedicated father, mentor, and devout Muslim among whom is Aleem Murtala, Chairman, TELL Magazine Chapel
