A three-day programme of activities has been announced to mark the 90th birthday of the Lagos elder statesman, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, OON, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, expected as Special Guests of Honour at the grand reception.
The Planning Committee for the celebration announced the programme in a statement dated Monday, 5 October, 2026, in Lagos. The events will run from Thursday, 8 October, to Tuesday, 13 October, 2026.
The committee invited family, friends, political associates, traditional and community leaders, public servants, business leaders and well-wishers to join in marking what it called nine decades of a life devoted to leadership, service and community development.
The committee said the celebration is about legacy and not longevity alone.
It described Olusi as a man of principle, wisdom, courage and commitment, whose journey has been marked by service to humanity and devotion to community development.
It said the occasion would also reflect on the values his life exemplifies, namely “leadership without arrogance, influence with responsibility, service without self-interest” and success measured by the positive impact made on others.
The celebration will begin on Thursday, 8 October, with the Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi Annual Leadership Symposium and the launch of an Educational Fund/Academy at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
The symposium will bring together intellectuals, scholars, policymakers, political leaders, professionals and thought leaders to discuss leadership and nation-building.
It is intended to promote dialogue on the responsibilities of leadership and on preparing the next generation to take up positions of responsibility with competence, integrity and vision.
A major highlight will be the official unveiling of the Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi Educational Fund/Academy, an initiative designed to support education, develop talent and create opportunities for future generations.
The committee said the initiative reflects Olusi’s philosophy that the most enduring investment a society can make is in its people, especially its young people.
On Friday, 9 October, family members, friends, associates, religious leaders and well-wishers will gather at the Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos Island, for a special prayer and thanksgiving service, held as a Juma’at service.
The committee said the service will offer thanks to Almighty Allah for the gift of 90 years, the blessings of family and friendship, and a life enriched by service and meaningful relationships. Prayers will also be offered for Olusi’s continued good health, strength, peace and many more years of purposeful life.
The celebration will end on Tuesday, October 13, with a grand reception at The Monarch Event Center, Lekki-Epe, Lagos.
The committee said it will bring together family, friends, associates and distinguished guests from across Nigeria and beyond to honour a man whose life it described as intertwined with the history, growth and social development of Lagos.
The committee said it was particularly honoured by the presence of Tinubu and the First Lady as Special Guests of Honour.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is the Chief Host. The Planning Committee is chaired by former Deputy Governor of the state and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
The committee described Olusi’s story as, in many respects, the story of Lagos itself, and said his generation has witnessed extraordinary transformations in Lagos and Nigeria.
It said the 90th birthday offered a grateful society the chance to say thank you for the wisdom he has shared, the lives he has touched, the relationships he has built, the communities he has served and the example he has set for younger generations.
The committee thanked the personalities, institutions, family members, friends and associates who have supported the celebration.
It prayed that Almighty Allah would continue to grant Olusi sound health, peace of mind, abundant grace and many more years of purposeful living.
The statement was signed by Orelope-Adefulire on behalf of the Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi @ 90 Planning Committee.
