Tinubu Sends Name Of Oluyede To Reps For Confirmation As Chief Of Army Staff

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name of Lieutenant General, Olufemui Oluyede to the House of Representatives for confirmation as the Chief of Army Staff.

This request was contained in a letter addressed to the House and read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday, 26 November, 2024 during plenary.

Thegazellenews.com recalls that Mr Oluyede was appointed by President Tinubu as the Acting Chief of Staff following the illness of Taoreed Lagbaja, who later passed away.

.The President said the letter is in compliance with Section 218 of the 1999 constitution.

“The powers conferred on the President by subsection (1) of this section shall include power to appoint the Chief of Defence staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, the Chief of Air Staff and heads of any other branches of the armed forces of the Federation as may be established by an Act of the National Assembly,” section 218 reads.
