A renowned Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdul-Akeem Abdul-Lateef, has admonished Muslims to uphold the pure oneness of Allah (Tawheed), declaring that no creature is worthy of worship, praise, supplication, or gratitude in the absolute sense except Allah.

Delivering a soul-lifting lecture at the 6th Ramadan Public Lecture organised by the Unified Local Government Muslim Staff Association, Alimosho Branch, on Tuesday, 24 February, 2026, at the Multi-purpose Hall of Alimosho Local Government, the respected cleric anchored his message on the theme: ‘Be Muslim Enough: The Role of Qur’an and Sunnah in Strengthening Faith’.

Drawing extensively from the Qur’an, Sheikh Abdul-Lateef emphasized the foundational Islamic creed of Tawheed, reminding the audience that Allah alone is the Ultimate Source of help and sustenance.

“And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you…” (Qur’an 10:106)

“Say, He is Allah, One.” (Qur’an 112:1)
He cautioned both Muslims and non-Muslims against directing acts of worship, supplication, or ultimate reliance toward any of Allah’s creation, stressing that such practices contradict the core message of Islam. According to him, while human beings may assist one another within worldly means, ultimate dependence, gratitude in worship, and heartfelt supplication belong solely to the Almighty.

The scholar further explained that strengthening faith requires strict adherence to the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), noting that deviation from these divine guides weakens spiritual consciousness and opens the door to misplaced devotion.
In his goodwill message, the Chief Host and Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, commended the Ramadan Committee for the successful organisation of the event. He specifically appreciated the Council Treasurer, Alhaja Onibon Kafayat, and the Amir (Head) of the Alimosho Branch of the Unified Local Government Muslim Staff Association, Alhaji Odunlami Hakeem, for their dedication, coordination, and massive mobilisation efforts.

The Chairman noted with satisfaction that the multi-purpose hall was filled to capacity, reflecting the spiritual hunger and commitment of the Muslim faithful during the holy month.
The event attracted prominent traditional rulers, including the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Hammed Orelope-Laka; Onishasha of Shasha, Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi; and the Alaye of Orisunmbare, Oba Akibu Adebowale Rauf; alongside Baales, political leaders, management staff, and other dignitaries.
The lecture ended with prayers for peace, unity, and strengthened faith, as participants were reminded of the Qur’anic assurance.
