Tragedy occurred in the early morning of Tuesday, 23 December, 2025 as at least 10 people lost their lives while several others injured a road accident along the Jos–Bauchi Road in Plateau State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, around 12:12am, and involved four vehicles, two trailers and two Ford Galaxy minibuses.
According to Eyewitnesses, 10 people died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were evacuated to hospitals for treatment.
The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, confirming the incident, through a statement issued on Tuesday, 23 December, 2025, said 10 adult men lost their lives in the crash.
“Today, 23rd December 2025, FRSC Plateau State Sector Command carried out another rescue operation following a road traffic crash that occurred after the Military Check Point along Jos–Bauchi Road in the outskirts of Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
“The crash occurred at about 0012 hours (12:12 am). It involved four vehicles, two trailers and two minibuses (Ford Galaxy). Nineteen people were involved: 17 males and two females. Ten adult men died on the spot, while the injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Miango, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Jos, and Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
“Eight corpses of the deceased were deposited at Plateau Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgues, while two of the corpses were claimed by officials of the NURTW for interment.
“The rescue was jointly conducted by FRSC, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Military officers and villagers.
“While further investigation is still ongoing, preliminary investigation revealed speed and reckless driving which led to loss of control were major contributory factors that led to the crash,” Longsan said in the statement, just as he also quoted the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olajide Mogaji, as appreciating those who alerted the authorities when the crash occurred.
Mogaji urged motorists to desist from night journeys, excessive speeding and other dangerous driving habits.
“They were also called upon to avoid driving under the influence and driving when sick or fatigued, as these are major causes of fatalities when road traffic crashes occur.
“Corps Commander Mogaji was embittered by the occurrence of the crash, as it happened barely 12 days after eight students of the University of Jos were killed in a similar manner.
“He therefore calls on people to take their personal safety with utmost importance. He admonished members of the public to call the FRSC toll-free emergency number 122 to report crashes or other road emergencies,” the statement added.
