Transport Minister Constitutes Committee To Investigate Causes of Train Derailment

The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Said Ahmed Alkali has directed that a Committee of all stakeholders be constituted to investigate causes of train derailment in the country and proffer permanent solutions to its occurrence, reports thegazellenews.com

The Minister took the decision as a fall out of the train derailment at Jerre involving a Kaduna bound passenger train from Abuja.

Thegazellenews.com recalled that the incident took place on Tuesday, 26 August, 2025.

Alkali stated that the committee would investigate the immediate and remote causes of train accidents particularly derailment, proffers permanent solutions and identifies ways to enhance safety and effectiveness of rail transport in Nigeria.

The Minister named the following as members of the committee:

Musa O. Ibrahim, Chairman; Prof. Danwaka Shuaibu, member; Engr. Zirra    Finbar, member; Barr. Omotola Olusegun, Director, Legal, Secretary;          Dr. Kayode Opeifa, MD, NRC, member;      Engr. I.A Ebuniwe, Inspector Railway, member; Representative of Technics Engineering Architecture Marketing Nig. Ltd, member; Representative of   CCECC, member; Representative of Civil Society Organizations, member; One male passengers’ representative; and One female passengers’ representative.
