The Kano State Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday, 20 September, 2023, sacked Abba Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), from office as the Governor of the state.

In a judgment delivered via Zoom, the tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Yusuf  and present it to Gawunna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.

The Tribunal declared 165,000 ballots invalid and subsequently deducted them from Yusuf’s total.

The Tribunal thus declared APC’s Gawunna winner of the election.
