The numerical strength of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives has been boasted again as two lawmakers of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) joined the ruling party.

Hon. Jallo Hussaini Mohammed, who represents Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, and Hon. Adamu Tanko, the lawmaker for Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State, announced their defection from the PDP to the APC.

Their decision was officially confirmed on the floor of the House on Tuesday, 18 March, 2025 when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read their letters of resignation from the PDP.

In their letters, the lawmakers appreciated the support they received from their PDP colleagues over the years but stated that they believe the APC provides a better platform for achieving their development goals. They hinged their defection on the challenges facing the party.

Since the 2023 elections, which saw the APC dominate at the federal and several state levels, more opposition lawmakers have switched to the ruling party than the other way around.
