The Faculty of Law at the University of Abuja is set to host a landmark event on July 27, 2024.

The event, organised by the Law Student Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), University of Abuja Chapter, will feature a ceremonial dinner, journal launch, and award night. This grand ceremony aims to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Mr. Adewale Tinubu, CON, a notable figure in the oil and gas industry and a distinguished member of the Nigerian Bar.

Tinubu is the CEO of Oando PLC, one of Nigeria’s largest oil companies, who has made significant strides in the energy sector. His expertise and leadership have not only advanced the industry but have also positioned him as a business genius and a role model for aspiring lawyers and business leaders.

Thus, in recognition of his impact, the University of Abuja Law students have decided to honour him during the prestigious event.

Lawal Farouq Ayobami, President of LAWSAN University of Abuja chapter, emphasised the importance of celebrating Mr. Tinubu’s contributions to the energy sector and energy law. He noted that the event would provide a unique opportunity for law students to interact with and learn from a seasoned lawyer and business leader who has reached the pinnacle of the oil and gas industry.

Prominent personalities expected to attend the event include: the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel; Senator Akpoti Natasha, who will chair the ceremony; and Professor Aladeitan Olanrewaju. The theme of the event, “21st Century Lawyers: Harnessing the Power of the Relationship Between Law and Energy,” underscores the relevance of Mr. Tinubu’s work and the evolving landscape of legal practice in the energy sector.

A highlight of the evening will be the keynote address by Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi, SAN, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Afe Babalola University. Professor Olawuyi, a learned and highly decorated legal scholar, will share insights on the intersection of law and energy, drawing from his extensive experience and research in the field.

The award presentation ceremony will be a central part of the evening, where Mr. Adewale Tinubu will be honoured with a plaque of recognition and a certificate presented by Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, and Professor Abdulrasheed Yusuf, Dean of the Faculty of Law. This formal acknowledgment will celebrate Mr. Tinubu’s exceptional contributions to the energy sector and his exemplary career.

Additionally, the event will feature the launch of a journal dedicated to Mr. Tinubu, highlighting his impact on energy law and the broader legal community. This journal aims to inspire current and future law students by showcasing the achievements of a prominent legal and business figure.

The ceremony will also recognize the academic and extracurricular achievements of students from the Faculty of Law .

Ayobami expressed deep gratitude to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abdulrasheed Yusuf, and the faculty members for their unwavering support and guidance in organising this event. He also acknowledged the contributions of the event’s sponsors and partners, including the Nigerian Bar Association, the Council of Legal Education, the Pan African Lawyers Union, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Oando PLC, and Access Bank. Their support has been instrumental in bringing this event to fruition.

The ceremony will take place at The BallRoom Event Center on July 27, 2024. All attendees are encouraged to participate in this significant event, which marks a milestone in the University of Abuja’s commitment to excellence in legal education and professional development.
