Former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; and Senator representing Lagos East, Adetokunbo Abiru; have endorsed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the next governor of the state.
The endorsement followed a series of consultative visits by Hamzat and his team to key political stakeholders across Lagos.

During a meeting at the residence of Abiru, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro presented Hamzat to party leaders, noting that the consultations had reached several stakeholders across the state.
Speaking at the gathering, Hamzat said, “The visits are part of efforts to engage stakeholders and seek their support.” He added that unity within the party was crucial, noting that members must “sustain the developmental trajectory of the state and align with the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Responding, Abiru described the consultations as consistent with the ideals of the All Progressives Congress (APC). “This move reflects the values of our party, which emphasise unity and discipline,” he said, adding, “I am confident in your capacity to govern Lagos, and I will give my full support.”
The delegation later visited Wale Edun, where Obanikoro commended the former Minister for his contributions to the party. He noted that Hamzat had continued to attract endorsements from key political figures.
In his remarks, Hamzat reiterated that the consultations were part of a democratic process. “What we are doing is to strengthen the party and ensure continuity in governance,” he said. “We are also here to seek advice, prayers and support from our leaders.”

Edun, in his response, described the visits as a reflection of grassroots democracy.
“This consultation is a demonstration of democracy at work. Such engagements are essential in a democratic system,” he said, adding, “If there is ever a man prepared for the job, it is Hamzat. I endorse him.”
Also speaking, party chieftain Julius Solomon said, “Hamzat is the most qualified for the position, considering his experience in governance and loyalty to the party.”
Edun further advised Hamzat to prioritise economic policies that would reduce poverty and sustain growth, while commending the economic reforms of President Tinubu.
