There is a growing call from the good people of Bauchi State for Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti to contest for the office of Governor in the forthcoming 2027 general election. This appeal is rooted in his proven track record of excellence, integrity, and visionary leadership, which has been demonstrated throughout his illustrious career.

Who is Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti?

Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti was born in 1970 in the historic city of Bauchi. He began his educational journey at Government Science School, Toro, where he obtained his WASSCE. He later gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria through the IJMB programme and earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.

He holds a master’s degree from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program and the University of Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government. Dr. Wunti is a fellow of both the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Chemical Society of Nigeria.

A Trailblazing Career

Dr. Wunti began his career with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 1991. From 2010 to 2015, he served as the Senior Technical Advisor to the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC. His commitment and strategic thinking saw him appointed as the General Manager of the Efficiency Unit under the GMD from 2015 to 2016.

He went on to serve as the General Manager and Technical Advisor on Downstream Operations (2016–2017), then as Group General Manager of NNPC Corporate Planning and Strategy (2017–2019). In 2019, he was appointed the Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of NNPC, where he served until 2020.

In 2025, Dr. Wunti was appointed Chief Health, Safety, and Environment Officer at NNPC Limited. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of worker health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to industry standards and promoting a culture of safety across the corporation.

A Man of Dedication and Results

Dr. Wunti is widely respected for his commitment to duty. Every task entrusted to him is executed with excellence, professionalism, and results-driven focus. His dedication has earned him the trust and admiration of his superiors, notably the GMD of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, who continues to entrust him with key responsibilities.

The Kyari-led leadership of NNPC, with Dr. Wunti as a key player, has made remarkable achievements in transforming Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, even in the face of significant challenges.

Conclusion

Given his proven leadership capacity, administrative competence, and deep understanding of policy and governance, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti stands out as a highly capable and visionary leader. His wealth of experience, both locally and internationally, makes him uniquely qualified to steer Bauchi State toward sustainable development and prosperity.

This is why the people of Bauchi are calling on him to heed the clarion call and make himself available to serve as the next Governor in 2027.
