Wife of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman Organises, Mobilises Women for APC Candidates Ahead 2027 Elections

The streets of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) came alive on Thursday, October 22, 2026, as women turned out in large numbers for a campaign walk organised by the council’s Chairperson, Alhaja Kikelomo Layeni-Jimoh, to mobilise support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tagged “Walk for Victory of All APC Candidates,” the exercise was more than a symbolic show of political solidarity. It was a deliberate grassroots mobilisation effort designed to sensitise residents to the importance of voting, strengthen the party’s presence across communities and build momentum for the electoral victory of its candidates.

The campaign walk underscored Layeni-Jimoh’s commitment to taking the APC’s message directly to the people, with women at the forefront of the mobilisation drive. Their impressive turnout highlighted the significance of women’s participation in grassroots politics and their potential role in translating campaign activities into votes on election day.

The candidates for whom support was being mobilised are: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Lagos State governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; Lagos Central Senatorial District candidate, Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun; Apapa Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Mufutau Egberoungbe and Lagos State House of Assembly Constituency II candidate, Hon. Musbau Aina Lawal.

The walk attracted prominent party leaders and stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaye; the APC LGA Chairman, Dr. Fabiyi Olabanji; the party’s Apex Leader, Alhaji Moruf Gbadamosi Ojora; former member of the House of Representatives and permanent member of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Wale Babatunde Jimoh; wife of the Lagos State House of Assembly candidate, Alhaja Lawal Zainab Abosede; political appointees and other party faithful.

The exercise commenced at the Renew Hope Agenda Secretariat in Sari-Iganmu, with participants proceeding through Iganmu Road to Alli-dogo Road, towards Gaskiya, down to Orita-Kudeti, before returning to Anago Hall at the council secretariat, where party leaders addressed the gathering.

Speaking with journalists, the Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, stressed that the initiative was intended to challenge voter apathy and discourage the assumption that electoral outcomes were predetermined.

“The people have a notion that those who will win already know themselves, no need of going to vote. We are telling them now that the vote counts. And for you to be counted, you have to be part of it,” he said.

Jimoh described the exercise as a wake-up call to sensitise residents within and beyond the LCDA, emphasising that the party was prepared to intensify its campaign through door-to-door engagement.

According to him, party members would be deployed to reach residents both during the day and at night, explaining the importance of voting and encouraging them to support all APC candidates.

He also urged party faithful to concentrate on their respective polling units, stressing the importance of grassroots organisation and electoral performance at the polling-unit level.

Speaking at the event, the council chairperson said the exercise was organised to secure victory for all the party’s candidates, beginning with President Tinubu and extending to the governorship, senatorial, federal constituency and state assembly contests.

She expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections and offered prayers for victory across the relevant constituencies in Apapa-Iganmu.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to make sure the days of the election we are going to record victory for the candidates in Apapa. That is why all the women of Apapa-Iganmu are being mobilised, with the support of the chairman, Hon. Jimoh, to come out for a victory walk on that day. Next year is going to be a good victory,” she said.

The initiative received commendation from prominent APC leaders, who described the gathering as a demonstration of unity within the party and an indication of its readiness for the forthcoming electoral contests.

Among those who affirmed the party’s cohesion were APC LGA Chairman, Dr. Fabiyi Olabanji; Apex Leader, Alhaji Moruf Gbadamosi Ojora; immediate past council Chairperson, Alhaja Funmilayo Akande Mohammed; Hon. Wale Babatunde; and APC Central Woman Leader, Alhaja Modupe Olawonyin.

The leaders expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, assuring supporters of a landslide victory while urging members to sustain the momentum generated by the walk.

They particularly commended Layeni-Jimoh for initiating the programme and called on party faithful to extend the campaign to every nook and cranny of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.

For Layeni-Jimoh, the walk was both a rallying point for party supporters and an opportunity to demonstrate leadership through grassroots engagement.
