Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has received praise from the Lagos State Branch of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) for the several initiatives the state government has implemented to promote peace in the state.
To commemorate this year’s World Peace Day, the Society issued a press release signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Hasan Sulaimon, and Chairman, Richard Adeyinka Emmanuel.

The SPSP acknowledged the government of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to improve state peace. In order to increase the Nigerian Police Force’s effectiveness in fighting crime and safeguarding the lives and property of all Lagos residents, Governor Sanwo-Olu has equipped the force with 260 vehicles and other security equipment, including bulletproof jackets, body-worn cameras, and helmets, within the past year.
To combat crime in the state’s troubled areas, especially Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki, the state government hired 1,000 policemen for the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps to beef up security intelligence for prompt action. The criminal justice system restructured for efficiency through the introduction of technology with the Lagos Criminal Information System (LCIS).
The domestic front was also affected by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s peace initiatives. The state government’s zero-tolerance policy for sexual and gender-based violence has resulted in over 140 convictions and six restraining orders, despite an increase in domestic and sexual abuse cases over the past year—8,692 incidents were reported. All victims of sexual assault received free Medicare and housing in government shelters, while children who experienced domestic abuse received counselling and some survivors received free legal assistance.
The SPSP urged the Sanwo-Olu-led government to continue its track record of maintaining peace and security in the state, while also applauding the relative tranquilly in some of Lagos’s more troubled areas.
