Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber, has accepted his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, describing the responsibility as one he does not take lightly.
The Senator, popularly known as Marafan Sokoto, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, 22 August, 2026, in Abuja, where he expressed his readiness to lead the campaign ahead of the January 2027 elections.
Yari expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him, stressing that he accepted the responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness.
“I accept this responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness. My sincere thanks go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party for the trust placed in me, and to our party leadership for the confidence. I do not take it lightly,” he said.
The Director-General described a political campaign as more than an electoral contest, explaining that it represents an opportunity for engagement with Nigerians across every state, language and faith on the future of the country.
“A campaign is more than an election. It is a conversation with the Nigerian people in every state, every language, every faith about the future we are building together. We intend to lead that conversation with discipline, unity, and respect for all,” he stated.
Yari extended an invitation to party members and supporters nationwide to join the campaign effort, while also appealing to Nigerians across the political divide to embrace the process ahead.
“To our teeming members and supporters across the country: the work begins now, and there is a place for everyone in it. And to Nigerians of every political leaning, this is a moment to choose progress over division. We will earn your confidence not with noise, but with a record we can stand behind,” he added.
He expressed confidence that the campaign council, working collectively, would deliver victory for the APC in the forthcoming general election.
“By the grace of God, and with the effort of us all, we will deliver victory in January 2027,” Yari stated.
The Senator, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, signed the statement in his capacity as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
