Popular Afrobeats singer Afeez Adeshina, professionally known as Destiny Boy, has reportedly died at the age of 22, sparking widespread shock and grief across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

The news of his passing emerged on Sunday, 18 January, 2026, although the circumstances surrounding his death have yet to be officially disclosed.
The report was confirmed by popular Instagram investigative journalist Temilola Sobola, who announced the singer’s death in a social media post.

In the brief message, Sobola wrote that Destiny Boy had passed away and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the singer’s death remains unknown, with no official statement released by his family or management to clarify the circumstances.
Meanwhile, the reported demise of the fast-rising artiste has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues and other stakeholders in the music industry.
Many took to social media platforms to express disbelief, mourn the loss and celebrate his contributions to the Afrobeats scene.
A close associate of the singer also confirmed the development online, stating that Destiny Boy had indeed passed away, while noting that details surrounding the cause of death were still unclear.
Destiny Boy, who gained popularity for his energetic style and street-inspired sound, had made headlines in recent years for milestones in his personal life. In November 2024, he reportedly welcomed his first child at the age of 20.
Earlier in March 2024, he had also drawn public attention after reportedly proposing to his partner with a diamond ring said to be worth millions of naira.
