Natasha Osawaru, wife of award-winning international singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker representing Egor Constituency assumed the position during plenary on Monday, 17 August, 2026, following a reshuffle of the Assembly’s principal leadership triggered by the emergence of Yekini Idaiye as the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Her appointment comes months after she defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.
Reacting to the development, the lawmaker took to her Facebook page to describe the new position as a responsibility to the people rather than simply a political title, explaining that the appointment represents a trust rather than a mere title.
She further stressed the importance of debate, accountability and standing up for ordinary citizens as central to her new role.
Her emergence as Minority Leader gives her a prominent role in the Edo legislature and further raises her profile in Nigerian politics.
Her elevation comes in the midst of an alleged marital crisis with the singer, with speculation rife that their marriage has hit the rocks.
None of the parties has commented on this development, as some allege domestic violence within the less than 12-month-old marriage.
