The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect over an alleged N20 million threat-to-life and ransom demand in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this during a briefing on Tuesday, 7 April ,2026 at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
He explained that the arrest followed a carefully coordinated decoy operation after a complaint was lodged by the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area.

According to Tijani, the command swiftly acted on intelligence received, deploying operatives to track down the suspect. “Acting on the information, operatives were immediately deployed to track and apprehend the suspect,” he said.
He added that the suspect was eventually arrested on March 27 while attempting to collect the ransom during a sting operation.
The police boss further revealed that items recovered from the suspect included an HP laptop and a flash drive, both of which are currently undergoing forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.
Tijani said the suspect had confessed to the crime and also admitted involvement in a previous attempted burglary at a commercial bank, indicating a pattern of criminal activity.
He explained that the arrest forms part of the command’s intensified efforts to curb kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
He assured that investigations were ongoing to identify possible accomplices and determine the full scope of the suspect’s operations.
The Commissioner added that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning criminal elements to desist from acts capable of threatening public safety.
According to him, the police will sustain intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety of residents across the state.
