Popular Nigerian cleric, Apostle Joshua Aghasedo of Powerline Church has said the use of sex toys by married couples does not amount to sin, describing such devices as tools that can assist spouses in their intimate life.

Aghasedo likened sex toys to everyday equipment such as cars and phones, arguing that their use should be considered within the context of marriage.

Speaking to his congregation in a video shared on the church’s Youtube handle on Tuesday, 11 August, 2026, the clergyman said sex toys could help couples improve their intimate experience.

“Is using a sex toy a sin? Is driving a car a sin? A car to drive you from here to Dallas, is it a sin? Using the phone, is it a sin? So, the phone is an equipment right” and car is an equipment.

“I have never used a sex toy. Let me just say.

“But in this modern day of technology, it’s an equipment. It can help you do the job to 90%, and you finish the remaining 10%. I’m just being real. It can help you.”

Aghasedo, however, stressed that he was referring specifically to married couples.

“I have never used a sex toy. Let me just say.

“But in this modern day of technology, it’s an equipment. It can help you do the job to 90%, and you finish the remaining 10%. I’m just being real. It can help you, ” he said , just as he however, stressed that he was referring specifically to married couples.

He noted that he had previously recommended the use of a sex toy to a couple based on their circumstances.

“I have suggested sex toy to a couple before when I look at all the surrounding circumstances, so that somebody won’t go out and other things would follow.

\“It’s an equipment to help, to help the process, sex toy is only for married couples. We are talking within the framework of marriage, right? Not outside. It’s for married couples,” he said.

The pastor further distinguished between its use within marriage and outside the marital setting, maintaining that using a sex toy individually amounted to masturbation, which he equated with fornication within his religious interpretation.

He explained, “Now, if you engage it on your own, it’s called masturbation and another word for masturbation is fornication.

“You get it? If you don’t get it, forget about it. It’s within the marital context. Alright?

Sex toys are increasingly being discussed as one of the tools some married couples use to enhance intimacy and address sexual difficulties within relationships.

While their use remains a subject of religious and cultural debate in Nigeria, views differ among faith leaders, with some considering them inappropriate and others focusing on whether their use occurs within marriage.
