The Federal Government has ordered a probe into alleged electricity theft and unaccounted power losses along the 132-kilovolt Ikorodu–Sagamu industrial corridor, with the losses estimated at 100 megawatts and the resulting annual revenue shortfall put at One Hundred and Twenty -billion.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this on Friday, 28 August, 2026 in Lagos during a stakeholders’ meeting with industrial operators, electricity market participants and regulators, directing a transparent, science-based investigation into the discrepancy between electricity transmitted along the corridor and the volume billed by distribution companies.

The investigation follows findings from technological monitoring deployed by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), which reportedly detected abnormal loading patterns and significant commercial losses across the network.

The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor has developed into a major industrial hub, serving several large manufacturing companies and other heavy electricity consumers.

Tegbe said the investigation would establish the actual cause of the losses and determine how the electricity supplied to the corridor was being measured, billed and accounted for.

He stressed that the exercise must be based on verifiable data to resolve the gap between energy transmitted and energy officially accounted for by distribution companies.

The Minister, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to industrial growth under President Bola Tinubu, assured manufacturers that efforts would continue to sustain and improve power supply to the corridor.

He, however, said improved electricity supply must be matched by accurate metering, transparent billing and accountability by consumers and market operators.

Tegbe warned that the government would no longer tolerate meter tampering, deliberate manipulation of electricity data or interference with power infrastructure.

He maintained that every electricity consumer must be held accountable for the power actually consumed, as the government intensifies efforts to curb commercial losses and protect revenue in the electricity market.
