Content creator, Mummy Wa, has claimed that a large number of women in Nigeria’s entertainment industry engage in prostitution, questioning how some female celebrities and entertainers without visible businesses or known sources of income are able to sustain expensive lifestyles.
She made the claim during a recent conversation involving other content creators and entertainment industry commentators, where the topic of women’s financial independence in the entertainment space came under discussion.
Responding to her claim, one of the guests present argued that some women receive financial support from wealthy men because of their looks, popularity or relationships, but insisted that receiving such support does not automatically mean a woman is engaged in prostitution.
Another influencer at the conversation acknowledged that many women in the entertainment industry are creative and maintain multiple sources of income, citing actress and entrepreneur, King Mitchy, as an example.
Reacting to this position, Mummy Wa maintained that claims of alternative income sources should be backed with verifiable evidence rather than mere assertions that a woman has income outside entertainment.
A former Big Brother Naija (BBN) star, who also featured in the conversation, argued that women should not be automatically labelled as either independent or dependent based solely on whether their sources of income are publicly known.
