Lagos has hosted the maiden African School Games as parents, sports experts, and stakeholders turned out in remarkable numbers for the inaugural edition held at the British International School, Lagos.

The co-founders of the Africa School Games, Mrs. Aderoju Ope-Ajayi, Dr. Busola Tejumola, and Dr. Seun Akinbohun, described the international tournament, which featured over 200 student-athletes from across the continent, as a distinctive platform that highlights the interplay between education and extracurricular engagement, particularly sports, in shaping well-rounded children. They noted that the Games serve as an opportunity to identify and nurture young talents early, helping them realise their full potential.

In attendance was the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu, who commended the initiative for promoting sports development through structured sporting activities within the school system.

He emphasised that such programmes reflect the growing recognition of sports as an integral part of education and a pathway to personal growth, discipline, and excellence among young people
