The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Abdulganiyu Obasa, has unveiled plans for a park and recreation centre in the council area, declaring that development goes beyond fixing roads and putting up buildings to providing residents with spaces to relax and create memories.
Obasa disclosed this in a video shared on X on Thursday, 6 August, 2026 during an inspection of the proposed site of the Agege Park and Recreation Centre on Akilo Road, describing the project as one he was particularly excited about.
“I inspected the ongoing development of the Agege Park and Recreation Centre on Akilo Road, and this is one project I’m particularly excited about,” he wrote.
He explained that the initiative was designed to meet needs that physical infrastructure alone could not address.
“Development is not just about fixing roads and putting up buildings. People deserve places to relax. Children deserve spaces to play. Families deserve somewhere to create memories,” he said.
Obasa added that the facility would provide residents with a place to unwind, socialise and spend quality time with their families.
“We are creating a space where the people of Agege can play, unwind, connect and enjoy their community,” he stated.
Expressing optimism about the project, the council chairman said he hoped residents would embrace the development once completed, describing the vision as one that extends beyond mere infrastructure.
“And when this is completed, I want every resident to look around and say: Yes, this is the Agege we deserve. The vision is bigger than infrastructure. We are building a better way of living,” he added.
